This week's Swap Meet takes a moment to acknowledge some recent losses - Ronald LaPread, Dexter Wansel, Foster Sylvers, and Peabo Bryson - and to mark Prince Rogers Nelson's birthday. The first half is heavy on Peabo, running through a good stretch of his catalogue including duets with Minnie Riperton, Roberta Flack, Natalie Cole, and Jasmine Guy, alongside some of his solo cuts. The Stylistics, Billy Paul, and Norman Connors keep the Philly soul thread going through the middle of the set.
The back half spends some time with Dexter Wansel - a composer and arranger who did a lot of killer important work at Philadelphia International across the 70s and 80s. A handful of Prince tracks follow in honour of his birthday, ranging from the well-known to a 1983 demo, before the Commodores, an unreleased Reactor Music tune to tip the hat to local legend Roger Perry, and hip-hop classic (produced by Ronald LaPread!) 7th Wonder's Daisy Lady close things out.
