Ann Shelton is an interdisciplinary artist primarily working amongst an expanded photography practice in which she explores plant knowledge, and the impacts plants have in relation to the body. Navigating the intersection of botanical histories and human knowledge systems.

In her current exhibition at Two Rooms, i am an old phenomenon Shelton presents a body of photographic works that continues in her exploration of plant knowledge. Showcasing a series of large scale archival pigment prints that capture plants at this pivotal point of motion, and reaction. We see plant material submerged, alight, rotting, afloat—caught in this act of response, enriched in liveliness. Pivoting these typical notions of a still life and immersing these plant materials in their innate unbound nature, resisting forms of fixed classification.

Together each image pulls you into an immersive encounter that brings you into this shifting threshold of botanical histories and human knowledge systems.

Maya caught up with Ann about the show and her overall practice.
